CITATION:
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving in battle during the engagement of Vera Cruz, 22 April 1914. Surgeon Langhorne carried a wounded man from the front of the Naval Academy while under a heavy fire. Surgeon Langhorne's determining and persevering actions, courageous spirit, and selfless devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
